Linking Florida's Natural Heritage

Linking Florida's Natural Heritage: Science and Citizenry was a project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 1997. It was designed to create a virtual library of Florida ecological information from heterogeneous museum, library, and citation databases throughout the state of Florida. This was a model program of cooperation between the Florida Museum of Natural History; the libraries of the University of Florida, Florida International University, and Florida Atlantic University; and the Florida Center for Library Automation.

Until November 2005, the Linking Florida's Natural Heritage (LFNH) website allowed students, researchers, and the public to query museum specimen databases, library catalogs, and other citation databases for taxonomic and topical information. In November, the system architecture became unsustainable. Because of global efforts to standardize the electrification of museum data, the project developers believe additional integrative efforts would not be productive at this time.

From this site, you may now access a list of sites that offer specimen data related to Florida species and the Florida Environments Online (FEOL) database which covers the literature related to Florida species and ecosystems. Many of the items in FEOL are in full text.
